trained in the heat of america’s premier pizzerias, chef rosario and his crew are crafting the future of pizza.
The Story of Alvo
Alvo Didn’t Start With Pizza.
It started with static.
In the late 1960s, Albert Viggiano opened Alvo Electronics Inc. in Syracuse, New York. He leased coin-operated radios to hotels, fixed televisions and mastered endless technical repairs. Al ran his shop on Dale Street with quiet pride and work that spoke for itself.
By the 1990s, times changed and cheap electronics quietly took over. And soon, Al’s son Barry would wind down Alvo without fuss—the natural end of a business built for a different era.
Yet, thirty years later, the name is back on a storefront sign—now in New York City.
Rosario Viggiano, Albert’s grandson, has been working in pizzerias since 2015. He’s spent time at prominent shops across the United States. From Portland, Oregon’s infamous Sizzle Pie, Pizzeria Beddia in Philly to Frank Pinello’s Best Pizza in Williamsburg. At Norm’s Pizza in Brooklyn, he was responsible for quickly growing the brand to three locations.
Finally, determined to exact his own vision of the perfect pizzeria, Rosario found an available storefront at 150 Smith Street—formerly Caruso’s Pizza for over 30 years—and with the help of business partner Pir Granoff and some friends, opened Alvo in 2025.
We get our name from Al—TV repairman, small business owner, and father of five. A tribute to the past and a signal toward what’s possible when you diligently chase your dreams. Alvo is the pizzeria of the future.
